These tools calculate; they do not rule. Where your mosque, local authority or scholar says otherwise, follow them.

How it works

Zakatable wealth is cash and bank balances, gold and silver, investments held for trade, business stock and money you expect to recover, minus debts that are due now. If the total is at or above nisab, 2.5% of it is due.

Nisab is the value of 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. Many scholars recommend the silver standard because it is lower and so benefits more recipients; choose the one your authority follows.

Questions

Is zakat due on jewellery I wear?

The Hanafi school counts gold and silver jewellery; the other schools generally exempt jewellery worn habitually. Include it or leave it out according to the position you follow.

Do I deduct my whole mortgage?

Most contemporary scholars deduct only the payments falling due within the coming year, not the whole outstanding balance.
